At the 1st 2017 hike to maintain the paths of Andros – from Agios Petros tower to Agias Monastery & Batsi
We had a lovely start at our 1st 2017 hike to maintain the paths of Andros from Agios Petros tower to Agias Monastery and Batsi. The hike took place along routes no 15 & 16, along part of the certified “Andros Route” last Sunday the 15th of January ! It was a wonderful sunny day with clear atmosphere and no wind.
Old and new friends, 14 in total, gathered from several places of the island (Chartes, Ano Gavrio, Gavrio, Batsi, Aprovatou, Paleopolis, Stavria Kapparias and Katakalaioi) at 10.30 a.m. at the parking by the beach of Batsi. A mini bus took us to the Agios Petros tower where we started our hike ascending towards the village spring and square where we had a short stop. We then continued ascending towards the cemetery of the village and then descended towards the “Agias” Monastery. We continued our hike along a lovely walled “steni” path passing through a beautiful area full of olive and cypress trees, enjoying marvelous views towards the west coastline and Batsi bay.
On our way we have cleared overgrown vegetation, lifted up and placed back on the dry stone walls fallen stones and gathered a few garbage. Our hike ended at Batsi Bay where we enjoyed a lovely meal at “Stamatis” restaurant.
We thank dearly all participants and invite everyone to join us again next Sunday on another hike. We will soon make a detailed announcement !
We dearly thank Nikos Paraskevopoulos, Dimitris Bothos, Philip Katsikis and Achilleas Kleisouras for their photos !
