On Saturday 23 March, the 7th maintenance hike was organised by the Andros Routes team. This time, we went to the south, specifically to the Gerakona mountain range. We chose to hike and maintain part of route 5 Ormos Korthiou – Rogo – Lardia – Giannisaio – Mesa Vouni – Exo Vouni – Vrachnou. Starting point was Mesa Vouni which is approximately in the middle of path 5. In cheerful atmosphere, 17 hikers from Gavrio, Vouni, Mainites, Chora, Kapparia, Ano Korthi, Varidi, Syneti, Athens and the Czech Republic, locals as well as visitors for the long weekend, since we passed Exo Vouni, we started hiking the beautiful “wild” and “lonely” part of 5. The springy nature was charming, the Dipotamata gorge and the Pano Kastro offered us wonderful images and a horizon that you could see as far as Chios and Ikaria.
Of course, the image that will remain forever is the one of Chora high above Vrachnos. After three and a half hours (including stops) we reached the finish line in Vrachnou. A beautiful group of people, a rich hiking experience. Thanks to everyone who participated in the maintenance hike with whose steps and tools Andros routes stay open!
See you at the next maintenance hike on Saturday April 6th on the routes 8 and 8a!
